KnowledgeLink is a powerful yet easy-to-use application for managing knowledge, ideas, and notes. It organizes documents in a hierarchy by branches whereby general categories nest more specific ones. Categories can easily be rearranged, added, and deleted. Each category contains a main document supporting rich text editing which allows fonts, formatting, and graphics to be embedded within the document. Files can be dragged from the Finder and copied into the category. Tagging is a central feature of KnowledgeLink. Within each document multiple tags may reside which associate text with structured data – similar to XML, but using a syntax that is less disruptive to the flow of plain text.
One of the built-in tags, flash, allows question tags to be embedded within the document with optional answer choices. The flash-card system allows these questions to be extracted from specified categories for quizzing. The project file keeps track of your progress and the flash system presents questions, placing higher priority on those frequently missed while placing less emphasis on those questions newly mastered. Tagging is a general mechanism whereby arbitrary user-definable tags, fields, and metadata can be inserted within the text, then these tags can be flexibly queried by a search criteria and quickly reviewed. KnowledgeLink is a convenient system for organizing knowledge and tidbits of information in a tree structure, keeping logs, train of thought, progress on projects, and more.
